Just 3 Reasons Why I Love FELT!

#1 Felt is very manipulable. It understands what I expect of it. It does what I want without hesitation.

Example:

Felt Peacock Feathers make the most perfect peacock costume!

#2 Felt conforms to my time restraints. When I come up with a GREAT costume idea just three days before I would need it complete I don't worry because Felt's got my back!
Example:

Felt Mr. & Mrs. Potato Head Costume!

#3 Felt doesn't get jealous. If I decide, on occasion, that the main material of a project needs to be something else, Felt doesn't mind taking a backseat. Felt plays with with others!

My Pier One CopyCat

Well, i'm done. i'm pretty pleased with the results. It's certainly not exactly like the original, but it's close enough to make me happy and i think it accomplished what i was going for in my dining room. Here's a reminder of the original:

And without further ado, here's my copycat of the Pier One bird painting using my very minimal painting skills and my die hard obsession with FELT:

On a rather depressing side note, i was in Pier One a couple of weeks ago and what do you think should be staring me down as soon as i opened the door? Of course, it was THIS painting, well not this one of course, the real one! The one that i painstakingly looked months for and was finally told that it was "out of season" and I shouldn't be expecting it to return to stores! All i wanted to do was take the associates aside and explain what i had gone through over this painting and to show them the pictures of my recreation (that really paled in comparison once i finally got to see the original in person!) Sigh. Well, i couldn't buy it, not after all it had put me through. I'll just hold onto mine for a while and then perhaps, i'll move onto something else.

Need it, Want it, Got to have it

I have been completely OBSESSED with this bird painting from Pier One for months now. It makes my heart happy. But, much to my dismay, i have been unsuccessful with finding it in a store. And my 30+ minutes of phone calls to local and distant stores proved fruitless. So what's a girl to do? i need this, want this, got to have this painting! well, painting is certainly not one of my strong crafting skills, but it's no secret that i have a rather insane obsession with felt. i'm pretty sure there isn't anything it can't make. So here's a new challenge for myself. I am going to recreate this painting (or at least something like it) using FELT and it shall hang in my dining room where i can see it everyday and smile. Can it be done?

*Meet Ellie and Mae, Sisters

Ellie is fun and happy and full of energy. She wants to be involved in anything and everything going on around her. You never know what she's going to say but you can be sure that it will make you laugh!

Ellie is your typical little sister. She simply adores her big sister, Mae. She follows her everywhere she goes and tries imitate her every move. To Ellie, Mae is the smartest, most beautiful creature alive. As much as Mae finds her little sister's antics annoying, she can't help but love her in that special way that big sisters love little sisters.

Mae is sweet and out-going and a great student. She has a lot of friends, but only a few that she considers true blue. She tries her hardest to be a good example to her little sister because she understands that that's what big sisters do.

*Made by Amanda, for EmmyCake

A Welcomed Addition

For those of you who are keeping track, last year was a great and FUN year for EmmyCake. I've seen alot of growth and stayed pretty consistently busy (except for November and December--I was CRAZY busy those months!!!) One of my favorite moments of the year was collaborating on the Halloween line with my dear friend, Amanda. It's great working with someone who understands what I'm trying to achieve, creatively. I'm very impressed with what we can accomplish when we put our heads together. That being said, this gal also has some spunk in attempting her own crazy ideas exploring the wonders of my fav fabric: FELT! I'm happy to announce she'll be joining EmmyCake as a Designer!
Amanda and I have similar taste, but different ways of execution which I think will be a GREAT addition to the EmmyCake name. I asked Amanda to say, "Hello" and tell us why she *hearts* felt.

Hello all you felt lovin’ friends! I’m so excited for this new venture with Lisa into the beautiful world of felt…I hope to only increase your love with some of my creations…I love how versatile felt can be…plus it’s just plain FUN! The way it feels, the colors, not to mention all the delectably cute things you can make with it!! I'm excited to show what I've made and I hope to keep the felt love alive!

Take a moment to welcome Amanda to the EmmyCake family and be sure to check my Etsy shop for the "Amanda for EmmyCake" tag.

Magic Tree House

I had to stayed up into the wee hours of the morning, but I was able to get Annabelle's "favorite book" costume done in time! I think it turned out pretty cute. It's no Kissing Hand, but she likes it and THAT is what's important. I present

The Magic Tree House
(That "fallen leaf" is stragetically placed over the whole in the knee of her leggings).

The Kissing Hand

In celebration of Read Across America week, my girls were asked to dress up each day this week. Today they dressed as their favorite character from a book (which was great) and tomorrow they are suppose to dress as their favorite book. This, to me, doesn't make much sense. But we are just going with it. Here's what my little Em will be wearing. I worked on it all day. Haven't started my other daugther's costume yet. eek!

Made of FELT, of course!

Something Spooky This Way Comes

I joined forces with my good friend, Amanda, to produce a Halloween line for EmmyCake that I am super proud of. Take a look at these stinkin' cute Trick or Treat bags (who am I kidding, I'm pretty sure I am going to be carrying one around for the next few weeks as a tote!)

MEET WINNIE

Winnie is a sassy little sweetie who could charm the treats from even the stingiest of ghouls. Be careful, she doesn't always get her way by "playing nice;" this little witch has got a few spells up her sleeve.

MEET HORACE

Horace is quite the mischievous monster. This little rascal is usually up to no good. With him on your side you are sure to have more tricks than treats!

MEET WENDALL

Wendall is the friendliest little spider you'd ever meet. There is nothing creepy about this eight-legged creature. You would never scream if this little guy crossed your path. He'd hardly hurt a fly. But, hey, a spider's got to eat!

MEET GRETA

Greta is the smallest, meekest ghost you'll ever meet. She has a hard time spooking anyone because she is just too cute. You have to listen closely to even hear her say, boo!

MEET JUST JACK

No Jack-o-lanterns here, it's Just Jack. Just Jack is a very content pumpkin--not a worry in the world. He's just accepted his lot in life and knows that it's just a matter a time before some big kid comes along and smashes his face right in!

MEET EDDIE

Eddie is a sly little bat. He's quite the charmer and many have fallen victim to his cunning ways.

Bags are made with stiff Sturdy FELT which means they are reusable. They have wooden handles for durability and an expandable opening for easy access to your Halloween loot.

I hope you will pass this important info on to your friends! ;)

Nelly

This is Nelly. She is a happy, high-spirited turtle who always speaks her mind. Her name means, "Light." She is Ferdinand's best friend.

Ferdinand and Nelly are like two peas in a pod. If Nelly sneezes, Ferdinand is the first one to say, "bless you." If Ferdinand gets scared of the dark, Nelly is the first to find a flashlight. If Nelly throws a party, Ferdinand is the first one to arrive and the last one to leave. If Ferdinand gets a bad grade in school, Nelly will stand right next to him when he tells his parents.

They always hold hands when crossing the street. They are the best kind of friends.

approximately 10x8 inces.

Ferdinand

This is Ferdinand. I LOVE him. He makes my heart happy. I named him Ferdinand because after I finished stitching him, I looked at him and just knew that was his name. After he agreed to it, I looked up it's meaning. It means "To Be Courageous." So fitting. Be courageous, my little felt friend!
